WHAT

What’s Camp Make-A-Game you might ask? Camp Make-A-Game is a camp that teaches campers how to create digital and physical games. Mornings are spent indoors with digital screen instruction, teaching kids to use point-and-click game creation tools. Because these tools don’t require coding, most of the instruction can focus on design principles like game mechanics or game feel and not just be focused on technical hurdles. Afternoons are spent outdoors, discussing and playing physical games like tag and soccer – and then the kids will re-design the rules and play the modified games, learning about game design while getting some exercise. By the end of the week, they’ll be game makers!

WHEN

Mon July 15 – Fri July 19
Camp will run from 9am-3pm with a break for lunch.

WHO

For ages 8-12.

WHERE

Maria A. Schuka Toronto Library Branch
1745 Eglinton Avenue West

Space is limited. Call 416-394-1000 to register or for more information. This is a featured Summer Wonder Camp.

Camp Make-a-Game Registrations Are Filling Up! https://test.handeyesociety.com/2018/05/18/camp-make-game-registrations-filling/ Fri, 18 May 2018 20:53:35 +0000 http://handeyesociety.com/?p=27229

As summer seemingly approaches, Camp Make-a-Game comes near! There are still spots available for the Hand Eye Society’s week-long, full-day summercamp for kids ages 8-12 with Ryerson University.

This ain’t your typical summer camp! Kids will have digital screen instruction in the mornings, where they will learn point-and-click game creation tools. A majority of instruction will focus on design principles like game mechanics and game feel. After lunch, we will bring kids outdoors (that’s right, zero screen time) discussing and playing physical games like tag and hide-and-seek — then we will have them re-design the rules to make and play their own modified versions of the games, while getting some exercise. Kids will have both a digital and physical game by the end of camp.

The following are available dates that you can sign up for:

Week #1 (8 & 9 years) – Tuesday, July 3 – Friday, July 6, 2018

Week #2 (8 & 9 years) – Monday, July 9 – Friday, July 13, 2018 ** Full!

Week #3 (10 – 12 years) – Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 20, 2018 ** Less than 10 spots left

Week #4 (10 – 12 years) – Monday, July 23 – Friday, July 27, 2018 ** Less than 15 spots left

Fees: $465 (5-day weeks) / $410 (4-day week)

Support Camp Make-a-Game for Communities

Last year, we worked with our partners Toronto Public Library and Ubisoft Toronto to bring two additional weeks of camp to under-served neighbourhoods, with York Woods Library at Jane and Finch and UrbanArts in Weston. We were able to make these camps FREE for participants thanks to incredible support from our local Studio Sponsors, who can be seen at the end of the video above.

This year, we’ll once again be working with TPL and other to-be-announced groups to bring the program to more neighbourhoods across Toronto and the GTA, but we need your help! Send a kid to Camp for just $200/year, and join the ranks of last year’s Camp Make-a-Game supporters including: Capybara GamesReptoid GamesTorn Banner StudiosStitch MediaRocket 5 StudiosDrinkBox StudiosLittle Guy GamesLongbow GamesGlobacoreDave BurkeGet Set GamesPhantom CompassUken Games and Asteroid Base.
