Jaime Woo – Hand Eye Test https://test.handeyesociety.com My WordPress Blog Tue, 22 Nov 2011 00:32:36 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.6 Gamercamp Update: Grab The App, Catch The Iron Chef Competition, and Prepare For The 8-Bit Cereal Breakfast https://test.handeyesociety.com/2011/11/21/gamercamp-update-grab-the-app-catch-the-iron-chef-competition-and-prepare-for-the-8-bit-cereal-breakfast/ Tue, 22 Nov 2011 00:32:36 +0000 http://handeyesociety.com/?p=2431 We’re just one week away from Gamercamp Lv3, the annual celebration of the artistry, innovation, and power of play. This year’s programming is our strongest yet, with inspiring talks, brilliant demos (including the neat Hand Eye-led Peripherals Initiative), an afternoon game jam, film screenings, tournaments, and more.

For a glimpse at some of the neat things going on, check out our infographics-loving poster, snazzily designed by Benjamin Rivers!

The Gamercamp app, powered by Guidebook, was just released and is the best and easiest way to organize your time at the festival. Just head to m.guidebookapp.com and you’ll find our event listed on the home page. If you have an Apple or Android smartphone, you can download the Guidebook app and search for Gamercamp in it—one advantage is that the app saves the information locally, so even if you lose connectivity, you still have that goodness available.

We also have news that 12 brave competitors will be entering into Gamercamp Stadium for our Iron Chef Competition held on Friday as part of MakerU! Co-organized with Game Prototype Challenge, the Iron Chef Competition will be an intense three-hour jam where our competitors will have to make up a game around a secret ingredient.

In addition to Iron Chef, MakerU is an afternoon of creating where attendees can try their hands at video games, board games (with Board Game Jam co-organizer Adam Clare), and physical games (with Recess.TO’s David Fono and Kate Raynes-Goldie).

Finally, we need some help. We’re bringing back the 8-Bit Cereal Breakfast, where attendees are encouraged to dress in their pajamas, bring a bowl and spoon, and prepare for a fun morning of cereal and cartoons. Except we need to decide what cereals to bring: head over the our Facebook page to answer what we should feature for Lv3. Crushed cookie bits, anyone? 😀

If you haven’t picked up your passes yet, do so now! Grab some buds and get set for what is destined to be another epic festival. Full details are available at www.gamercamp.ca!

Thanks and see you there! :)

For The Win(nipeg)! https://test.handeyesociety.com/2010/11/17/for-the-winnipeg/ Thu, 18 Nov 2010 01:05:06 +0000 http://handeyesociety.com/?p=1100 In two weeks, Data Dance, a “CHIPTUNE DANCE PARTY and POP UP ARCADE” (as it’s described on its Facebook event page), is happening in Winnipeg. Of course, that’s a perfectly good excuse for a road trip, right? So, Mark and I (Jaime) are heading to PegCity to check out its indie games scene and to rock out to awesome chiptunes.

One of the co-organizers has asked us if we could bring some Toronto games with us so people can play and we totally dig that idea. We’ll probably load them on our laptops and rep Toronto good. If you’re interested, can you email me (jaime@gamercamp.ca) so we can arrange having your game played and shown?

Cool bones? 😀

Gamercamp 2: Electric Boogaloo! https://test.handeyesociety.com/2010/10/17/gamercamp-2-electric-boogaloo/ Sun, 17 Oct 2010 05:34:58 +0000 http://handeyesociety.com/?p=996

Gamercamp is back!

After launching last year with wicked talks, dazzling demos, a full-blown arcade, and scrumptious, sumptuous cupcakes, Toronto’s festival celebrating the art, creativity, and fun in video games returns November 13-14, 2010!

We really want to create a space where people can discuss games, play games, and hopefully become inspired to create games. Like any good sequel, Gamercamp 2010 is jammed with badassery: over two days, we’ve got 25 speakers, blazing new demos, 3 arcades including the amazing Torontrons created by Hand Eye, and even a PJs and cereal brekkie Sunday morning. Our line-up is filled with goodness like the Sword & Sworcery team, Jim Zubkavich of UDON, Stéphane Boutin of Scott Pilgrim v The World: the Game, and Mathew Kumar of EDGE and Gamasutra—and those are just our keynotes.

After a long (but awesome) day of games, we figure everyone will want to unwind. So, on Saturday night, we’re hosting the 1UP bash featuring Anamanaguchi and Starscream. After rocking PAX Prime, we’re excited for the Anamanaguchi guys to take Toronto by storm.

Tickets are on sale now! So grab some friends and mark down in your calendars what will be an epic weekend. Full details are available at www.gamercamp.ca!

Thanks and see you there! 🙂
